A man has been shot and injured on the doorstep of a house in Cambridgeshire.
The 41-year-old was shot after answering the door to two men, Cambridgeshire Police said.
They had knocked at the door of the property in Anderson Crescent, Godmanchester, and after shooting the man ran off towards Meadow Lane.
The victim was taken to hospital with a single bullet wound which is described as serious but not life threatening and remains in a stable condition.
Cambridgeshire Police would not name the hospital where he is being treated because of fears for the man's safety.
Det Insp Mike Branston said: "I would like to hear from anyone who saw these men in the moments leading up to the shooting and as they left the scene.
"Investigations are under way to trace them and we are treating this as an isolated incident.
"Thankfully these types of incidents are rare. However, we are treating this crime extremely seriously."
