A US Air Force B-52 bomber is to be the star attraction of the 2010 Sunderland International Airshow.

The 22nd annual event - billed as the largest free airshow in Europe - takes place on 24 and 25 July.

The line-up also includes the RAF's Red Arrows display team, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the RAF's new Typhoon fighter jet.

Organisers say they expect several hundred thousand people to attend the weekend event.

Also making a return this year is an RAF Harrier jump-jet, along with the Royal Navy Black Cats Helicopter Display Team and the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team.

A park and ride service will operate between 0900 BST and 1900 BST each day at Fulwell Quarry and the Community North Sports Complex and will cost £5 per car.
