Late-night car parking charges that business leaders claimed damaged the economy of a Surrey town centre have been abolished.
Mole Valley District Council agreed the £1 charge for car parks in Dorking had proved unpopular with residents.
Deputy leader Councillor Kathryn Westood said charges had been introduced last year with the "best of intentions".
She said the council had listened to criticisms of protesters.
The council proposes to abolish the charge with immediate effect.
