A soldier from South Yorkshire who lost both legs and his left hand when he was injured in Afghanistan is to be given local hero status by his home village.
Craig Wood, 18, from Woodlands, near Doncaster, has spent the last year at Hedley Court - the Ministry of Defence (MoD) rehabilitation centre in Surrey.
He is to lead a parade at the two-day Woodlands Festival on Sunday.
Rifleman Wood has been learning to walk again but will lead the parade from his mobility scooter.
'Laughing with mates'
Speaking about his time in rehabilitation, Rifleman Wood said, despite needing further surgery on his leg, his efforts to walk again were "coming on pretty well".
He added that it helped to be with others who could understand his situation.
"Being with the lads here who are in the same boat that I am it's been really good," he said.
"You have a laugh with them, you can sit and talk to them whenever you need to .
"They're your mates but you can relate to them really easily because they've got trouble and you can understand."
