Leighton Buzzard brook cleared to reduce flood risk

Rubbish has been removed from a brook in a bid to reduce the risk of flooding in a Bedfordshire town.

Televisions, bicycles and shopping trolleys were among the items cleared from Clipstone Brook in Leighton Buzzard by the Environment Agency.

The brook runs close to homes, businesses and schools and the risk of flooding in heavy rainfall had increased due to the obstructions.

During the clean-up, silt, trees and log piles were also removed.

The brook was cleared from Lake Street to the River Ouzel.

Ian Cooper, from the Environment Agency, said: "We urge people not to dispose of objects in the brook and to deal with household waste responsibly and legally."
