Soldier dies in 40ft Angus quarry fall
A soldier who fell to his death during a rock climbing exercise in Angus has been named by police.
Gordon Brass, 34, from Dundee, was part of a group who were rock climbing at Legaston Quarry at Collieston on Friday.
He was said to have fallen about 40ft at about 1445 BST.
It is understood Mr Brass was a member of an Army recruitment team and was with a group of students when the incident happened.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: "I can confirm that a soldier was killed during a climbing exercise near Arbroath."
Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the incident, and a report will go to the procurator fiscal.
