Arrest over fatal collision near Staffordshire park


A man in his 80s has died after being hit by a car close to the entrance of a park in Staffordshire.

A black Ford Fiesta collided with a pedestrian between the entrance of Beacon Park and the memorial gardens in Lichfield, at about 1315 BST.

The pedestrian died at the scene and his wife, also in her 80s, suffered minor injuries.

The driver, a woman in her 50s from Lichfield, has been arrested and Beacon Street has been closed by police.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Staffordshire Police or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
