Arrest after mother and baby flee Hastings flat fire


A man has been arrested after a fire in which a mother and her baby had to flee their home in Hastings.

Emergency teams were called to the fire in a first-floor flat in Bohemia Road in the early hours of Friday.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service alerted Sussex Police to the incident, which is being investigated.

A 23-year-old man from Hastings, who is known to the woman, was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life a short time later.

He is currently being held in custody.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control after being called to the scene at about 0250 BST.

Bohemia Road was closed during the morning but has since reopened.
