Dounreay saves on landfill fees

Recycling hard hats, metal and tonnes of cardboard and paper saved Dounreay more than £5,000 in landfill charges last year.

The former experimental nuclear power plant in Caithness recycled more than 113 tonnes of "clean" non-radioactive metal.

Workers at the site also recycled 35 tonnes of paper and 21 tonnes of cardboard.

Batteries, plastic and protective gear were other items not dumped.

Dounreay is being decommissioned at a cost of £2.5bn.
