Aberdeen City Council accepts new school food guidelines

Full fat meat, chocolate covered peanuts and sweets as gifts have all been banned from Aberdeen City Council schools as part of new guidelines on nutritional food.

However, councillors have expressed anger at the plans.

Depute Leader Kevin Stewart says the guidelines would turn teachers into "food police".

The new rules come in light of Scottish government efforts to promote healthy eating in schools.

The authority is to write to the government expressing its dissatisfaction.
