The Death of Kurt Cobain
5 April 1994
8 April 1994; Seattle radio station KXRX breaks the news that a body has been found in the Seattle home of Kurt Cobain. 2 days later a candlelit vigil is held outside the EMP Centre in Seattle where thousands of young fans turn up to mourn their hero; the organisers play a recording of Kurt's suicide note read out by Courtney Love. Kurt honoured Neil Young in his final note by quoting the words "Better to burn out than to fade away."

Kurt Cobain's death was a huge shock to me even tho' I knew he wasn't long for this world, one could just tell. He so obviously was not happy having the weight of the media & huge worldwide fame baring down on him. He used a long term solution to a short term problem & I can't help thinking if only he'd have made it thru' that period, he'd still be with us now. Nirvana's music was fantastic & this is why he is the biggest grossing dead star on the planet, even bigger than Elvis. "Hey Kurt, the monitor mix of "Breed" is just a blast, may you rest in peace"...Alex Andrew, Manchester (UK)
I think its a terrible loss and everyone will miss Kurts talentsIt was very sad that the project didn't work that Michael Stipe had tried but i know he will be well missed and never forgotten!Nirvana!Poppy

I was 16 and in my last year of school when I heard the gutting news.Nirvana became huge because of kurts ability to write simple, catchy and passionate music that you could relate to, and not becuase he killed himself. In my opinion though, they probably would have split, with kurt becoming a band hopping soloist. What a waste. I would have loved to have seen him team up with Noel gallagher or the prodigy or the white stripes.........hoddesdon

I think if Kurt had lived, Nirvana wouldn't be the Nirvana we remember now, they would've gone downhill and disappeared, I was quite young when Kurt died but his death has left an impression which has shot Nirvana in a place in rock history where it cannot be removedBelfast
mk i had no better place to put this but urs sud mention Dave Grohl and foo fighters cause they r rock godsMatt, Hertfordshire
I was a teenager on holiday in France with my parents visiting some French family friends when I heard the Kurt had committed suicide. The news had been on the radio and there was some fairly negative discussion amongst the adults about it who clearly didn't understand the enormity of the news for me. Thinking back to that moment I can clearly recall what it felt like to be 15 and misunderstood by adults!
