BBC drama travels across the globe

The growing success of original British BBC dramas abroad continues as BBC Worldwide announced today sales across the globe of three of its major drama productions; Top of the Lake, The Paradise and Father Brown.

Top of the Lake (6x60’) made by See-Saw Films for BBC Two, The Sundance Channel and UKTV has been sold to nearly 100 territories worldwide. Countries to have snapped up the haunting mystery drama series by the Academy Award-winning writer and director Jane Campion starring Emmy-nominated actress Elisabeth Moss and Holly Hunter include: Canada (Space), South Africa (M-Net), France (Arte), Sweden (SVT), Norway (TV2), Japan (Mystery Channel), Portugal (RTP) and Denmark (DR).

Another international drama hit is BBC One’s The Paradise (8x50’) made by BBC in-house drama productions. It has been sold to over 130 territories including Australia (ABC), New Zealand (PRIME), France (D8), Austria (Servus TV), Finland (YLE), Singapore (MediaCorp) and Germany (Passion). The series is an adaption from the much-loved classic French novel by Emile Zola and set in the impossibly glamorous world of the first ever department store. The second series of The Paradise is currently in production in the UK and has already pre-sold to Spain (MediaSet).

Finally, the BBC One daytime crime drama Father Brown (10x45’) starring Mark Williams based on the stories by GK Chesterton has been bought by over 50 broadcasters across the globe including Australia (ABC), Sweden (TV8), Denmark (DR) and Iceland (RUV). In the US, Father Brown has been sold to 40 public television stations with a reach of 30% of all US television households and will premiere in the autumn.
