BBC Three has commissioned a new film from Proper Content which examines the devastating impact of football racism in the UK, as incidents soar and players at every level of the game call for drastic action.

While football authorities claim great strides have been made in rooting out discrimination, the statistics are damning. Last season saw a 66 percent rise in hate crimes at professional football matches in England and Wales.

With emotional interviews and shocking undercover footage of abuse, the programme shows the scale of racism that still needs to be tackled. Players at all levels of English football tell the stories behind some of the most recent high-profile incidents, revealing the impact the abuse can have on their game and own mental health.
