Wednesday 17 January

Ivor Novello Award-winning Joan Armatrading tells Tom Morton about her humble beginnings in music, through to graduating from the Open University and attaining an Honorary Degree from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Joan Armatrading wrote and performed many classic songs including Show Some Emotion, Me Myself I and All The Way From America. By the time she took part in this programme in 2012, she had recently released her 20th Album.

Joan’s breakthrough year was 1976 with her top ten single, Love And Affection. It was a double-edged moment as it prompted questions regarding her own love life, about which she has always been guarded.
