Ginger Boxwell flies from Australia to the UK to spend the summer with four cousins she's never met before - how will she manage in a foreign country, with a new family? What she doesn't realise is that Matt, Robbie, Ethan and Chris are just as nervous about it as she is. Like every boy, these boys have their share of secrets. Not only are they keeping them from Ginger and their parents, but also from each other!
The boys discover that Ginger also has something she’s hiding. And it’s big. The game is afoot and they work tirelessly to uncover Ginger’s secret, all the while trying to protect their own. With Mum Corey, who likes to stir the pot and Dad Bob, who enjoys shaking the can, the summer will turn out to be fun, surprising, loud and messy!
The unique interactive format allows viewers to discover additional content, including character insights and hidden secrets, which will help piece together Ginger’s big secret; and extra punchlines which allow the user to re-live gags in new ways. The secrets are unlocked online and are a gateway to more lol moments and fun.
Erica Brown will be playing the lead role of Ginger for her TV drama debut. Neil Reynolds (MTA’s sitcom The Adventures of T-Boy and BBC 3’s Rush Hour), Reece Buttery (CBBC’s The Dumping Ground, BBC1’s Gangsta Granny and Holby City), Gene Gurie (from short films Offside and Jimmy Rangel and The Old Vic’s Much Ado About Nothing) and Joel Guy (in his TV debut whilst studying at LAMDA) will be playing Ginger’s four cousins: Matt, Robbie, Ethan and Chris. Aunt Corey will be played by Elizabeth Bower (BBC 1’s Doctors, Sky 1’s Trollied, and Silent Witness) and Uncle Bob will be played by Grant Burgin (Eastenders, Doctors and feature films V for Vendetta and Stardust).
The Secret Life of Boys is a Zodiak Kids Studio production for CBBC in the UK and ABC in Australia. It was written and created by Anthony Q Farrell: produced and directed by Beryl Richards. The interactive producer was Trevor Klein (Zodiak) and the executive producers Steven Andrew for Zodiak Kids Studio and Sue Nott and Mario Dubois for CBBC.
The episodes will start being released online (bbc.co.uk/cbbc) from Monday 2 November, they will then be wrapped up as a TV omnibus edition on CBBC on Saturdays, starting from the 7 November. The first episode of the next story will be available online straight after the TV omnibus.
