Borgen: Outside The Castle
Monday 16 December to Friday 20 December
BBC RADIO 4NEW
Borgen - the Danish Parliament - is at the centre of this acclaimed political drama, originally broadcast alongside the TV series in Denmark. Made by the same team behind the hit TV series, the radio drama follows the character Hans Gammelgaard (played by Tim Pigott-Smith), Private Secretary in the Ministry of the Environment, as he seeks approval for the controlled use of genetically modified crops by Danish farmers. He expected opposition but not from unseen enemies prepared to go to any lengths in pursuit of their own agenda.

Originally produced in 10 parts by DR, Denmark's national broadcaster, this radio spin-off of Borgen is set against the backdrop of the first series of the television drama, which followed the unlikely emergence of Birgitte Nyborg as the country's new prime minister. Both series have at their centre the Danish parliament, nicknamed Borgen - 'the castle'. While the TV drama focuses on the politicians, the radio drama is set in the world of the civil service. Both share the same soundtrack composed by Halfdan E.
