Sense And Sensibility

Ep 1/2

Sunday 4 August

3.00pm-4.00pm

BBC RADIO 4

British playwright Helen Edmundson dramatises Jane Austen's novel about two sisters who learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find happiness in a society where money governs love.

Forced to leave Norland, their beloved family home, after the death of their father, Elinor and Marianne try to make a new life for themselves at Barton Cottage. While Marianne unexpectedly meets the dashing Willoughby who sweeps her off her feet, Elinor has a surprise visit from Edward. But with neither fortune nor connections, the prospect of marrying the men they love appears remote.

With Amanda Hale as Elinor, Olivia Hallinan as Marianne, Deborah McAndrew as Mrs Dashwood, Blake Ritson as Colonel Brandon, Ben Lamb as Willoughby, Henry Devas as Edward, Conrad Nelson as Sir John, Rosina Carbone as Lady Middleton, Brigit Forsyth as Mrs Jennings, Victoria Brazier as Nancy, Caitlin Thorburn as Lucy and Emily Hooker as Pianist.

Adapted for radio by Helen Edmundson.
