Why are you taking part in Strictly this year?
I’m taking part this year just because I couldn’t really say no. It feels a bit of a once in a lifetime thing that if I let it pass me by, I would regret it. It’s probably the last chance in my life that I’m going to learn how to dance and I’m embracing it with both hands because of that.
Are you a fan of the show?
Absolutely, I’ve watched it loads over the years. I could never imagine doing it myself because you get to such an amazing standard so quickly. I can’t see myself getting there but I’m told that the professional dancers make sure you do. I’ve watched some stuff online of the progression and people do make big leaps and bounds very quickly so that’s what I’m hoping for. Ed Balls, for example, did so well last year because he threw himself into it and that’s the way you have to approach it.
What are you looking for in a dance partner?
I think I’m looking for someone who is a bit no nonsense but at the same time someone who is quite fun and will make it enjoyable. They need to be able to crack the whip when they have to but can also have fun and have a good time.
How far do you want to reach in the competition?
At this point, I only don’t want to go in the first couple of weeks but ask me again in a few weeks’ time and it will be a different story. I just don’t want to embarrass myself or Holby City or Scotland!
