BBC announces new names for Shakespeare Live! From The RSC

Rufus Wainwright, Tim Minchin, Al Murray, Meera Syal, Alison Moyet, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Paapa Essiedu, Pippa Nixon, Alexandra Gilbreath, The Royal Ballet and The Orchestra of the Swan will join David Tennant, as he hosts a live TV celebration of William Shakespeare, to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

Gregory Doran, the Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company has assembled a once-in-a-lifetime cast, which as previously announced, also includes Dame Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Joseph Fiennes, English National Opera, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Ian Bostridge, and Akala to appear in this unique event, staged at the RSC theatre in Stratford.

Shakespeare Live! From The RSC will be broadcast on BBC Two on 23 April and is part of the BBC Shakespeare Festival 2016, which will see the BBC use the full range of its services - local, national and global – to make Shakespeare irresistible to everyone.

Shakespeare Live! From The RSC is produced for television by John Wyver, Director, RSC Screen Productions, and BBC producer Catherine Stirk. Shakespeare Live! From The RSC has been commissioned by Jan Younghusband for the BBC and the executive producer will be Phil Dolling, Head of Events. Part of the BBC’s partnership with the RSC.
