Mark Addy (Atlantis, Remember Me) Anna Chancellor (Mapp And Lucia, The Hour) will star alongside newcomers Mark Strepan and Ben Tavassoli in Anthony Horowitz’s investigative crime drama New Blood for BBC One.

They will be joined by Ariyon Bakare (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Dancing On The Edge), Kimberley Nixon (Critical, Fresh Meat), Mark Bonnar (Line of Duty, Shetland) Aiysha Hart (Atlantis, Honour) and Dorian Lough (Peaky Blinders, The Smoke).

Mark will play DS Derek Sands, an experienced police detective who has found himself left behind by younger and more ambitious officers, and his professional and personal bitterness causes problems for Rash (Ben Tavassoli), who’s trying to learn from him.

Mark Addy says: "There’s nothing better than an Anthony Horowitz crime story, and New Blood had me hooked from the first read of the script. I’m looking forward to playing the rough and cynical character of Derek Sands."

Anna Chancellor’s character Eleanor Davies is the Director of the Serious Fraud Office and Stefan’s (Mark Strepan) overall boss. Clever, tough, pragmatic and aware that her job is an impossible one, she relishes her work - but her personal life is not a happy one.

Anna says: "It’s brilliant to be part of New Blood and to be playing the fierce Eleanor. I’ve long admired Anthony Horowitz’s work and look forward to bringing his modern and exciting script to screen."

Executive Producer Jill Green adds: "Eleventh Hour Films is thrilled to be working on a drama that offers a fresh way into crime, with such a surprising, diverse and exceptionally talented cast."

Created and written by Anthony Horowitz and produced by Eleventh Hour Films (Safe House, Foyle's War, Vexed), New Blood is a 7x60 drama series directed by Anthony Philipson (Cuffs, Our Girl and 24 Hours In A&E) that will show a unique side of modern London through the eyes of two outsiders.

New Blood was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, and Ben Stephenson, former Controller of BBC Drama. Jill Green is the executive producer for Eleventh Hour Films and Matthew Read for the BBC. The series producer is Eve Gutierrez.
