The BBC and Pearson College have joined forces to launch a new Higher Apprenticeship and degree programme in September 2014 for those looking to develop a career in business management within the creative industries.

The two-year scheme targets those without a degree and opens up entry into the creative industries to the broadest range of backgrounds.

Alongside teaching at Pearson College to understand key aspects of business – from management and leadership to business law – successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop hands-on experience through three placements within the BBC. These will take place within three of five areas: Television, Marketing & Audiences, Future Media, Policy & Strategy, or Worldwide.

The scheme provides a Leadership and Management Higher Apprenticeship incorporating a Pearson College BA (Hons) Business Management* degree with all fees paid, validated by Ashridge Business School, one of the world’s leading business schools.

Bal Samra, Commercial Director of BBC Television, says: “The BBC is a fantastic place to work and schemes like this enable us to bring bright and fresh talent into the organisation.

“From my point of view as Commercial Director it is also an exciting time to be joining the BBC. With so much change in the broadcasting world the apprentices will have the opportunity to learn, gain knowledge, skills and valuable experience to launch their careers in the business world.”

Roxanne Stockwell, Principal of Pearson College, says: “We are excited to be working with the BBC on developing their first undergraduate Business degree. This is a fantastic opportunity to open up the creative industries to the brightest and best from all backgrounds.

“This is the first collaboration of its kind between Pearson College and a major employer, building out our ethos of industry-focused degrees designed and delivered by industry and academics in equal measure.

“As a FTSE 100 company with a long academic heritage, Pearson is uniquely placed to deliver the increasingly popular combination of academic and work-based learning that a degree within a Higher Apprenticeship provides.”

Today the BBC also launched the recruitment for a new 15 month Local Apprenticeship Scheme run by the BBC Academy in partnership with the City of Wolverhampton College. It will offer 45 local apprenticeships in BBC local radio stations as well as in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Further information is available here.
