Singing sensation Melanie C will take to the stage for this year’s Scottish celebrations of BBC Proms in the Park when the spectacular outdoor music event returns to Glasgow Green on Saturday 7 September 2013.

Former Spice Girl-turned-musical-leading-lady Melanie C will take part in the iconic open-air concert alongside a myriad of musicians including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish fiddler John McCusker, Scots soprano Kate Valentine and tenor Nicky Spence, amongst others.

Melanie C, who will perform I Don’t Know How To Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar, is excited about her Scottish Proms in the Park debut: “It’s great to be a part of Proms in the Park on Glasgow Green this year. I’m really looking forward to performing to the fantastic Glasgow audience and with the Scottish Symphony Orchestra. I love the music that I will be performing and, with such a big year for Glasgow on the way, it’s definitely going to be a night to remember.”

This year’s Scottish Proms in the Park will also feature music and imagery from Hebrides: Islands On The Edge, BBC Scotland’s acclaimed landmark natural history series.

Bringing the Proms season to a close, Scotland’s Proms in the Park is presented by BBC Scotland with support from Glasgow City Council. Tickets for Proms in the Park at Glasgow Green are on sale now costing £12.50 (£7.50 for concessions) available from Glasgow Concert Halls Box Office on 0141 353 8000 or online at bbc.co.uk/promsinthepark. Donalda MacKinnon, Head of Programmes & Services, BBC Scotland, says: “We’ve always had terrific support for Proms in the Park in the past so we’re delighted to be returning to Glasgow Green this September where I know we’ll get a bumper crowd.

"With Melanie C as part of the line-up, we’ve got an exciting mix of pop, traditional and classic, providing a top class programme from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and many other wonderful musicians - making Scotland’s Proms in the Park a great musical night to remember.”

Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Councillor Gordon Matheson, adds: “As a Unesco City of Music, we are delighted to welcome Proms in the Park back to Glasgow Green. For the thousands who descend on the city’s oldest common land, the spectacle of hearing a superstar of Mel C’s calibre perform alongside the incredible BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and other very special guests is always a joy to behold. We are all very much looking forward to sharing in the final evening of the world’s greatest classical music festival.”

Proms in the Park sees the spectacular culmination of the BBC Proms season, as the world-famous Last Night celebrations spill out from London’s Royal Albert Hall with thousands of people coming together at venues across the UK including Scotland’s Glasgow Green. As well as an array of musicians, the Glasgow Proms in the Park evening of entertainment culminates in a live big-screen link-up to the Royal Albert Hall for the traditional singalong.

The first half of Proms in the Park Scotland will be broadcast on BBC Two Scotland from 7.30-9.00pm. The concert will also feature live on BBC Radio Scotland. Highlights from all of the UK Proms in the Park events will be on BBC Four and on the red button. There will also be coverage on BBC Radio Scotland as well as on the BBC iPlayer.
