Brand new BBC Studios comedy series Scarborough from creator Derren Litten
I am so thrilled to be back at the BBC and with a show I am so passionate about. After 10 years of Benidorm I really do think Scarborough is going to surprise a few people and in very good way.Derren Litten
Scarborough follows the lives and loves of a handful of residents in the sometimes sunny beach resort in North Yorkshire, where every week the locals gather in a karaoke bar to swap gossip and belt out 80s classics. It will be written and directed by Derren Litten, the award-winning creator of the ITV smash hit series Benidorm and 2016’s ratings-winning reboot of Are You Being Served? for BBC One.
Scarborough has been commissioned as a 6 x 30’ series for BBC One to be filmed on location in summer 2019.
The pilot was developed and produced for BBC Studios by James Farrell and Stephen McCrum, who was also executive producer along with Chris Sussman. It was filmed earlier this year and features an ensemble cast of talent from the comedy and drama world.
Derren Litten, creator, says: “I am so thrilled to be back at the BBC and with a show I am so passionate about. After 10 years of Benidorm I really do think Scarborough is going to surprise a few people and in very good way.”
Chris Sussman, Head of Comedy, BBC Studios Production says: “Derren writes with humour, heart and soul - and we couldn’t be more pleased to be bringing all that to BBC One. Get ready for plenty of singalong moments...”
