A strong, independent and plural media underpins all development, enabling people to participate in the debates and decisions that shape their lives. BBC Media Action has been involved in media development since the organisation was founded in 1999. We seek to strengthen the capacity of the media at four, inter-related levels: audience, practitioner, organisation and the wider media system.
Over the years, we have designed and deployed a broad range of evaluation approaches to assess the impact of our capacity strengthening work. We are now working towards developing a more systematic evaluation framework and methodology with a view to engendering a sectoral conversation around these issues. BBC Media Action also collaborates with a range of partners in the media development sector to secure objectives such as journalist safety, media freedom and access to information which are all core precepts of a healthy and thriving independent media community.
