Featuring music covering a broad spectrum, from Basement Jaxx to Bhangra, Kylie to Kasabian, Leicester has a small but lively gay scene that encompasses everything you could want.
 | | Bossa - cocktails and happy hour |
Bossa is a tiny café bar on Granby Street that attracts a mixed crowd. Being close to the station, they are normally pretty busy, especially at weekends. They have a happy hour from 5pm every night on all drinks, including cocktails. Helsinki is a bar/nightclub that is Bossa’s ‘sister’ bar on Rutland Street. They host various dance nights throughout the week including a hard house night and feature regular guest DJ’s. Round the corner from Bossa, on Dover Street, is the Dover Castle, according to some the UK’s oldest gay pub. They have karaoke on a Monday night and DJ’s every other night until midnight, 2am Friday and Saturday. The Rainbow and Dove is a recently refurbished pub on Charles Street that serves food, including Sunday lunches. Monday night sees their ‘Pink Pound Party’, plus a cocktail night on Tuesdays and vodka promotions on Wednesdays.

Streetlife is Leicester’s oldest running gay nightclub. It has two rooms, both of which play music from the, shall we say, cheesier end of the spectrum. Beware, Streetlife gets very busy on a Saturday night. Quebec, on Belgrave Gate has recently undergone a dramatic refurbishment. It spans two floors (soon to be three) and every Friday has one of four specialist nights on rotation. These are ‘Rang’, a gay Asian night, ‘Intelekt’, a Cybergoth night, ‘Speed Garage’, for house lovers and an as yet unnamed indie night due to start on March 18.
