Everything has a history: be it a building, a person, a community, a myth, a legend, a trade, an occupation.
Our country is made up of the histories contained within it; without everything that exists in our past we would not have our present, and how we lived then, and act now, shapes our future.

The Legacies website searches through our past and tells stories so you can discover our history. From the earliest travellers who came to Britain over 4,500 years ago to the concrete building, which depicts the modernist movement, and is now a financial burden to its present owners; no corner of our past is left unturned.

Use the map on the left to travel round the country by work and occupation, or use the link on the left hand side to visit the Archive. From there you can find out about Architectural Heritage, Immigration & Emigration or Myths & Legends.
And finally you can see what members of the public have written about, in Your Stories; a wealth of tales and yarns about peoples' history.
