Hi, I’m Sam. Welcome to the programme!

And I’m Phil. Hello!

Well, I’ve been to South Korea, and I noticed they had recycling bins everywhere.

For paper and plastic? So is that your answer, Phil?

We will give the answer later in the programme.

News insert
A ten-year-old schoolgirl from Pakistan has been taking general rubbish and turning it into gift bags to help clean up the growing waste problem in her country. Pakistan generates 20m tonnes of rubbish a year and the figure is growing by 2.4% annually. Could Pakistan’s ‘youngest social entrepreneur’ have the answer? Zymal Umer estimates she has sold $5,000 worth of bags and donates her profits to children’s charities, winning multiple international awards for her work.

What a great story! This girl clearly has a real social conscience.

Yes, and so young.

I know! It’s always nice to see young people who have a social conscience and want to change things.

You and your social conscience, Sam! No, but it’s true - they can then be an example to other young people, too.

Exactly, often all you need is one person to implement change and others will do the same.

Have either of you ever implemented any changes?

Like the girl in the story? No! But I’ve tried to implement small changes in my own life, like reusing plastic bags.

I do that, too.

That just shows what happens if everyone makes little changes.

It’s true, we can all make a difference in small ways.

‘Make a difference’ ልዩነት መፍጠር ማለት ነው። In small ways, like we were saying earlier, with our plastic bags.

Yeah, I often wish I could make a bigger difference than I do, though...

There’s your social conscience again, Sam!

But, really! I can often see where there’s a problem, but can’t come up with solutions.

‘Come up with solutions’ መፍትሄ ማምጣት ማለት ነው። They described the schoolgirl in the story as a ‘social entrepreneur’ for making gift bags from newspaper.

Exactly! She came up with such a creative solution to a big problem in her country.

You know, I was just thinking - I’d say that in our team, I’m the one who comes up with the most creative solutions.

You’re also the one who creates all the problems, Phil!

Oh no, maybe we need to implement some changes here!
በአገርዎት ውስጥ ምን make a difference? ማን come up with solutions ያለበት ይመስልዎታል? . .
የዚህ ሳምንት ዝግጅታችንን አጠናቅቀን ከመሰናበታችን በፊት ዛሬ የተወያየንባቸውን ቃላት እንመልከት፥ ሁሉም ከማኅበራዊ ችግሮች እና መፍትሄዎች ጋር የተገናኙ ናቸው፤ ማኅበራዊ ኅሊና ‘social conscience’፥ ለውጥን መተግበር ‘implement change’፥ ልዩነት መፍጠር ‘make a difference’፥ መፍትሄ ማመንጨት ‘come up with solutions’።
