Frequently asked questions about BBC iPlayer Downloads:

  • How long am I able to watch a programme once it's been downloaded?

You can download and watch programmes offline for the same amount of time they're available for on the website. So if a programme is still available for 15 days on the website, you still have 15 days to watch it as a download. At the end of that period, the download programme will be deleted. So keep an eye on the expiry date of each programme you download to make sure you don't miss out!

  • Is the Parental Guidance Lock feature available on BBC iPlayer Downloads?

Yes. If you have the Parental Guidance Lock turned on - like you would for playing programmes on the website - you’ll need to enter your PIN to download any programme with a guidance label.

  • Are subtitles available on downloads?

If subtitles are available when you stream a programme then they'll be available on the download. You can turn subtitles on or off by selecting the ‘S' button in the playback console.

  • How do I download the HD version of a programme?

There are two quality versions of a download: Standard Definition and High Definition. Once you click on the Download option on the website it will ask if you have already installed BBC iPlayer Downloads. It will then present the option to Download in SD or Download in HD.

  • What is Series Record?

Series Record lets you subscribe to any BBC TV series, and have new episodes automatically downloaded to your computer as soon as they become available. Find out more about and how to use Series Record on the What is Series Record? FAQ.

  • Can I change where the download files are stored on my computer?
