BBC iPlayer Kids - What safety features are in the app?

The app has a Safety Lock feature that prevents children from clicking away from the safety of the app. This is triggered on Settings and whenever there are links outside of the app.

The lock works by generating a random numeric code in words, that the user can read and input numerically. A new code is generated on each attempt.

There are only links to the BBC websites or other BBC Children's apps in the app stores.

iPlayer Kids app safety

All the content in the BBC iPlayer Kids app is child-friendly. In addition, we have filtered content to be age appropriate, so younger children will only see what’s suitable to them. As a result, there is no need for an equivalent to the BBC iPlayer Parent PIN feature which blocks content unsuitable for under 18s.

The app is free, with no in-app purchases or adverts.

For more information see the What costs are associated with the app? FAQ.
