How to clear cache (Browsing data or Temporary internet files)

If you’re experiencing problems with BBC online you can try signing out of your account and clearing your cache (your browser saves information from web pages to help them load more quickly next time you visit them – this is known as a cache). 

(The BBC is not responsible for non-BBC websites)

Windows

Internet Explorer 8

  1. Sign out of BBC Account (click on your account name and select 'sign out' then 'continue'
  2. Go to Tools and from the Safety menu, click Delete Browsing History.
  3. Select Temporary Internet files and History.
  4. Click Delete.

In some cases, you may need to open a new window and choose a private session before attempting the above.

Firefox

  1. Sign out of BBC Account (click on your account name and select 'sign out' then 'continue'
  2. In the Tools menu, select Clear Recent History.
  3. Under Time Range To Clear select Everything.
  4. Click Clear Now.

Google Chrome

  1. Sign out of BBC Account (click on your account name and select 'sign out' then 'continue'
  2. Click the Chrome menu button on the browser toolbar.
  3. Select More tools.
  4. Select Clear browsing data.
  5. In the dialogue that appears, select the tickboxes for the types of information that you want to remove.
  6. Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data that you want to delete. Select beginning of time to delete everything.
  7. Click Clear browsing data.

Opera

  1. Sign out of BBC Account (click on your account name and select 'sign out' then 'continue'
  2. Click the Tools menu.
  3. Select Delete private data.
  4. Select the data you want to clear and press Delete.

Apple Macintosh

Safari

  1. Sign out of BBC Account (click on your account name and select 'sign out' then 'continue'
  2. In the Safari menu, select Clear History and Website Data.

Firefox

  1. Sign out of BBC Account (click on your account name and select 'sign out' then 'continue'
  2. In the Firefox menu, go to Tools and select Clear Private Data.
  3. Ensure the Cache box is ticked.
  4. Click Clear Private Data Now.

Google Chrome

  1. Sign out of BBC Account (click on your account name and select 'sign out' then 'continue'
  2. In the Chrome menu, select Clear Browsing Data.
  3. Select the checkboxes for the types of information you wish to remove.
  4. Use the Clear data from this period menu to select the amount of data you want to delete.
  5. Click Clear Browsing Data.

Opera

  1. Sign out of BBC Account (click on your account name and select 'sign out' then 'continue'
  2. Click the Tools menu.
  3. Select Delete private data.
  4. Select the data you want to clear and press Delete.
