The new home of BBC Sport
2004 saw the UK government make public its wish that a large part of the BBC should move outside London, and in 2006 the Salford Quays site was chosen outside Manchester. Quay House, is now the home of the BBC, where some 2,700 staff work. It is also co-sited with regional ITV news provider Granada, and one of the ITV Studios network production centres. The entire centre is one of the largest HDTV programme making facilities in Europe. BBC Breakfast, Match of the Day, BBC Radio 5 Live, North West Tonight and BBC Radio Manchester are just some of the programmes and services which come from Media City, as well as Blue Peter, Mastermind, and CBBC. BBC Radio 6 Music joined the centre in 2011.
