This beautiful evergreen shrub from South America is a breathtaking sight in late spring and early summer. It produces scarlet flowers which contrast with the dark green foliage to stunning effect. Best grown in a sheltered spot such as a woodland garden, it needs to be protected from cold, drying winds. It enjoys moist but well-drained soil and benefits from regular mulching with organic matter such as garden compost.
