Them and Us: Enemies and Adversaries in Politics

On the eve of the US election, Michael Ignatieff examines why people hate politics these days – excessive partisanship. After a high-profile career in the UK as a broadcaster, academic and novelist, Ignatieff returned to Canada to become a politician, leading the Opposition in the 2011 election.

Why is political competition so vicious when party differences are so small? Michael Ignatieff reveals what needs to be done to restore faith in politics.

In association with Newcastle University’s Insights Public Lecture Series.

Presented by Anne McElvoy.

Watch this event live online at bbc.co.uk/freethinking from 4.15pm Saturday 3 November.
