Michael came to prominence when he gained the top spot in the BBC's Sound of 2012.

He first picked up a guitar at the age of 16 and started writing his own songs, before studying jazz at the Royal Academy of Music and popular music at Westminster University, eventually creating tracks which have been compared to Bill Withers and Otis Redding.

In 2012 he released his debut Mercury nominated album Home Again, which led to live sessions for the likes of Dermot O'Leary, Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe, and Lauren Laverne. A signing on the Communion Records label which also looks after Sunday’s Pyramid headliners, Mumford & Sons, led to Kiwanuka becoming their main support on their phenomenal North American tour. Already expressing excitement about his debut Glastonbury performance, it’s sure to be the ideal setting for his acoustic soul sound.
