Join the BBC Concert Orchestra, conductor Anna-Maria Helsing and violinist Jennifer Pike at Watford Colosseum for an afternoon of music by a selection of female and French composers.
Former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Jennifer Pike performs Saint-Saëns’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, a virtuosic piece full of passion for violin and orchestra. One of the most prominent French composers of the interwar period, Roussel’s score for a one-act ballet, The Spider’s Banquet, is delicately evocative while his Petite Suite in three movements harks back to classical dimensions. Symphonic poems by female composers begin and end the programme led my Finnish conductor Anna-Maria Helsing. Susan Spain-Dunk explores the famous English landmark in Stonehenge, while French composer Augusta Holmes alludes to her Irish heritage with Irlande.
This concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 for Afternoon on 3 and presented by Fiona Talkington.
Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that as not everyone who asks for tickets uses them, to make sure we have a full house we send out more tickets than there are places. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people so please arrive early.
