Classroom Ideas

Revise the difference between simile and metaphor and, using examples from 'Spaghetti' and 'The Beach', discuss how the techniques are similar and different. Use objects or artefacts and ask children to describe them using simile or metaphor and discuss which is most effective. Use these comparisons in a poem on a given theme.
