Classroom Ideas

Working in silver and other precious metals may not be available to all, but this clip could be used as an introduction to the practical aspects of silversmithing or as an insight into working in the creative industries.

The class could create a production plan for a silver ring, identifying the tools used and how the material is changed by each process. Students could produce their own designs for a piece of jewellery. The skills and techniques demonstrated could be applied to a range of soft metals, such as tin, aluminium and brass.
