A Little Human Planet report about two families, one living in Ethiopia and another living in North Canada. We meet two young girls who show us their contrasting homes. In Ethiopia we see small huts made from mud and sticks in a hot, sunny climate and in North Canada, we see an igloo being made from snow.

Classroom Ideas

After watching this clip, pupils may use a comparison table to record the differences and similarities of the family living in Ethiopia and the family living in North Canada. Pupils may then go on to discuss reasons for the differences and challenges of each lifestyle. Pupils may be encouraged to make models or drawings of the different homes or to create a wall display depicting the igloo and small huts. Pupils may use hot-seating, pretending they live in each place and asking each other about their homes, their challenges and what they enjoy doing in their spare time.
