Cara, Laura, Emily, Beth, Anna and Rebecca from year 7, Chelmsford County High School told us what they thought of the latest Doctor Who novel from Mark Morris.
What is the story about?
Darac - 7, an infamous alien, is making an army of Gelem Warriors and is using humans from 1947 until his shield breaks down and poisonous gas infects people in Calcutta. His capture of Gandhi enrages the Doctor and battle commences.
Apart from the Doctor and Donna, what were the main characters like?
Gandhi was portrayed with real emotion and feeling with Darac - 7 portrayed as beyond evil.
What did you particularly enjoy/dislike about the book?
The storyline was excellent and in each chapter there was a new dilemma for the Doctor and Donna to overcome, also the mixture of fact and fiction with the people and events of 1947.
What were the best bits?
The "half-made men" haunting the streets; the series of violent events portrayed in a fantastic city; the Doctor's in-depth technical knowledge; the evil spirits of the Gelem Warriors; the 'goodness' of Gandhi.
What did you think of the story as a whole?
This book was action-packed and full of suspense and drama - extremely scary but exciting at the same time. It was a real page-turner that kept you in suspense until the end.
