For our latest book review, we asked the reading group from Bishop of Llandaff school in Cardiff what they thought of the latest Doctor Who novel, The Pirate Loop by Simon Guerrier.
Here's what Sarah, Lauren, Bethan P, Bethan M, Rosie, Enya and Lydia had to say.
Warning! Below be spoilers!
What is the story about?
Sarah: A Luxury ship that disappears. The Doctor and Martha try to find it and discover it's been removed from time.
Lauren: The Doctor and Martha go to find out what happened to it.
Bethan P: It's invaded by useless pirates and The Doctor and Martha just happen to land on it.
Bethan M : The ship stops them dying. Martha gets captured by pirates and The Doctor rescues her.
Enya: The Doctor and Martha are trying to discover why it is missing.
What were the characters like?
Lauren: Badger pirates started off aggressive and changed to be nice and respectable.
Sarah: I liked the alien.
Bethan P: The Pirates are useless and everyone dies.
Bethan M: There was an alien who turns nice at the end and a cool alien badger who was grown from a test-tube. He turned nice when offered cheese and pineapple.
Rosie: Interesting! I liked the badger pirates.
Lydia: Martha and the Doctor were well written, but I didn't like the badger pirates.
Enya: I liked Martha's confidence. I didn't like Captain Georgina.
What did you particularly enjoy/like about The Pirate Loop?
Lauren: I liked the fact that different parts of the ship were in different times.
Sarah: I liked how it was written with the time all twisted.
Bethan P: It was an easy read compared to others I've read.
Lydia: I thought the ending was clever.
Bethan M: I liked the idea of them going round in a loop, and the food regenerating and them not being able to die.
Rosie: I liked the fact that I didn't understand anything until the end when the Doctor explained it.
Is there anything about the story you didn't like?
Bethan P: The plot was pointless, why would pirates look like badgers in the first place?
Lydia: No, but it's not one of my favourites.
Bethan M: It didn't seem to have much of a plot.
What did you think of the story as a whole?
Lauren: I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.
Sarah: It was well written and I was disappointed when it was over.
Bethan P: It wasn't very good and it didn't interest me very much.
Bethan M: It was interesting to see how the characters changed.
Rosie: Not my usual type of book, but it was good.
Lydia: It was worth reading.
Enya: It was a good science fiction story.
The girls gave The Pirate Loop a swashbuckling 7 out of 10.
