In our second of four brand new book reviews, we asked the pupils of Tiffin School in Surrey what they thought of new Doctor Who novel Wishing Well, by Trevor Baxendale.
Here's what Edwin, Stephen, Gabriel, Stuart and JJ had to say!
What was the book about?
Edwin: The Doctor and Martha visit a village with an ancient well.
Stephen: What at first seemed just an ordinary landmark is soon shown to be far from that!
Gabriel: They discover local myths about creatures near the well coming back to life.
Stuart: In the local pub, they discuss what they should do, over a drink of dandelion and burdock.
JJ: Finally, the Doctor goes down the well on a harness, to investigate furtherå..
What were the characters like?
Edwin: The Doctor's optimism was true to form!
Stephen: Angela and Henry had an interesting history.
Gabriel: Nigel and Ben were familiar and realistic.
Stuart: Duncan was my favourite character because of his difficult situation.
JJ: Martha was just like she is on TV!
What was your favourite bit?
Edwin: The action scene in the collapsing tunnel!
Stephen: The Doctor's witty confrontations!
Gabriel: The village life seemed very believable.
Stuart: The Land Rover's escapadeså
JJ: The Doctor's victory at the end.
What was your least-favourite bit?
Edwin: Some scenes dragged on a little bit.
Stephen: The Doctor's capture wasn't really necessary.
Gabriel: Nigel's family history was a bit far-fetched.
Stuart: The chats in the pub.
JJ: Angela the crazy old lady.
As a whole, what did you think?
Edwin: Interesting book good for a long journey.
Stephen: A fun read more suited to younger readers.
Gabriel: An enjoyable romp.
Stuart: A good effort but predictable in places!
JJ: Great, for Doctor Who fans looking for more.
Stephen:Overall, an original story well worth the read!
