Revenge of the Judoon

Revenge of the Judoon

  •

In this first of four brand new Doctor Who book reviews, we asked the pupils of Mount Pleasant Primary School in the West Midlands what they thought of the latest in the Quick Read series.

Here's what Tina, Amy, Gemma, Robert, William, Jamie, Suzanne, Sean, Hannah, Michael, Charlie, and Alan had to say about Revenge of the Judoon by Terrance Dicks.

What is the story about? (Spoilers!)

Suzanne: The Judoon stealing Balmoral Castle
Sean: ... leaving a huge crater in the ground!
Gemma: A castle goes missing and ends up in the desert. The Judoon made it happen...
William: ...and the Doctor tries to get it back!

What were the characters like?

Amy: The characters were described well. I especially like when Martha is sarcastic to the Doctor!
Charlie: I loved the Peacemakers because they can change shape and they bring excitement to the story.
Michael: My favourite character was Harry Carruthers because he teamed up with the Doctor and Martha and helped them find Arthur Conan-Doyle and the cosmic Peacemakers.

What did you particularly enjoy/like about Revenge of the Judoon?

Hannah: I liked Revenge of the Judoon because it was a quick read - and I love Doctor Who!
Robert: It has a mystery to it.
Suzanne:It was full of wonderful cliffhangers. And I loved the part when the Doctor, Martha and Carruthers sorted the Judoon problem out by proving the scroll was fake.
Gemma: Chapter 3 was my favourite part: Hunt For A Castle.
Alan: The Judoon was my favourite chapter.
Charlie: I enjoyed it when the Doctor slid into the room with Martha and the King (You could just imagine it!)
Tina: When Challoner and the Doctor fight in Chapter 14!
Sam: I particularly enjoyed the battle between the Judoon and the field soldiers.
Amy: I liked the end bit when the Doctor negotiates with the King because the Peacemakers are trying to take over the world.
Jamie: You got to see another side of the Judoon, as they think of themselves as an honourable race.
William: The introduction of the Judoon in Chapter 7, because it leaves you on a cliffhanger and I wanted to carry on reading!
Michael: I liked it when the Doctor came face to face with the Judoon Captain.

Is there anything about the story that you didn't like?

Jamie: I thought that the ending was a little disappointing: the story had really built up but then the Doctor saved the world in a boring way.
Hannah: No, it was brilliant all the way!
Charlie: I loved the story as a whole but I would change the first bit because I think it dragged on a bit.

What did you think of the story as a whole?

Gemma: It's just so enjoyable.
Charlie: I'm not a big Doctor Who fan, but I though the Judoon were brill and I've never seen them on television.
Tina: It was really interesting - I would recommend it to anyone.
Amy: The story was full of tense moments that really made me want to read on.
Robert: It has excitement, mystery and adventure. I want to buy it and read it again!
William: I would recommend it to children and people who don't usually read - like me!
Alan: On the whole, it was brilliant. I'd recommend it to people who don't like reading.
Sean: It was one of the best adventure books I've ever read.

Marks out of ten?

The pupils agreed on a score of 9.5!
