Phil's Full Of Ideas!

Phil's Full Of Ideas!

Russell T Davies has revealed that some of his favourite ideas for the most recent series of Doctor Who did not come from himself or the other writers - but from outgoing Producer Phil Collinson.

"The easiest example of this is The Unicorn and the Wasp," notes Russell in his foreword to Doctor Who: The Complete Series Four Companion.

"The whole idea, right from the start, was his. 'D'you know what I've always wanted to do? A murder mystery... with Agatha Christie!' Delivered with hoots of laughter!

"And it was his own idea to completely revamp the ending of The Doctor's Daughter. That climactic confrontation, ending in Jenny's death, was due to take place in a Generic Spaceship Room... but Phil was disappointed with that, and right at the last minute, he phoned up to say, 'This might sound mad, but there's a great big botanical garden in Swansea...' And suddenly the climax had scale and grandeur, and even poetry."

The Complete Series Four Companion, produced by the Doctor Who Magazine team, takes readers through the making of all 13 episodes, as well Voyage of the Damned and Time Crash.

It features anecdotes and comments from the cast and crew, script extracts, deleted scenes, and hundreds of previously unseen photographs.
