I was initially put off by the whole 'Doctor Meets Hitler' idea which seemed both unoriginal and cringe-worthy, but it works very well. The book begins in the same manner as Invasion Earth, before continuing in many interesting directions. The plot is fantastic, and makes really good use of the Brigadier and the Sixth Doctor
Many years ago, Terrance Dicks wrote an excellent Doctor versus the Nazis book, and this book brought back fond memories of it. I'd recommend this to a casual reader of the series. It's a really good, strong read. It honestly doesn't suck at all! Simon Catlow
Just how good this book was surprised me. After such a good Sixth Doctor Adventure (The Quantum Archangel) only a few months ago, having another exceptionally good book so quickly was a definite surprise.
The characterisation of the Brigadier is excellent as is that of the Doctor. Justin Richards is usually a very dependable writer with some classic books like System Shock, Theatre of War and The Burning to his credit but this surpasses them all.
Stephen Cole's books have been a mixed bunch but the combination of him and Richards worked well to create a superb book. I might even go as far as saying that this is the best Past Doctor story that the BBC have published. Chris Hopkins
For once, a past Doctor adventure I can really, really enjoy. The last Past Doctor Adventure I really enjoyed was The Face of the Enemy, and this is just as good, if not better.
It's a shame Clair couldn't have been retained as a companion. Considering that there is an unknown timeframe between the end of The Trial of a Time Lord and the arrival of Mel, I'm sure she could have been... Especially since Frobisher has been used in a few adventures. More like this please. Grant Foxon
I approched this novel with mixed feelings due to the idea of the Doctor meeting Hitler and the Brigadier and secondly because of the writing duo.
I could not have predicted how good the story is. The opening chapters are a bit gruesome but it soon picks up. A must read. Hector Roddan
I thought this book was brilliant right from the mysterious beginning and the discovery of Hitler.
There are brilliant plot twists, such as letting you think it's Hitler using the alien capsule to live forever. The characters are all well formed, and the deaths of the journalists, especially the shock demise of Claire at the very end of the book, are brilliantly written.
