You are right Robert, the aplogy would be fine if they admitted what their mistakes were. But they did not. Instead we just got waffle.
Unfortunately, this was entirely to be expected. Admission of any guilt would be a sign for them to be sued by shareholders - on this account they served themselves well by giving away so little to the committee.
However, I don't think anyone expects vast bonus' for those at the very top. However mid ranking Banksters can still get up to a £1 million quid or so - are these justified this year given they would have recieved nothing if their employer had gone bust?

My fear is the treasury will emerge with extra powers; the treasury is the most polliticised of the 3 and will not act in the interests of the country, but of the government (which it considers to be one and the same, hence the problem).
