Work
has begun on a new social group for gay and lesbian people in the
High Peak area of Derbyshire. |
 |
Organisers
of a new gay and lesbian social group hope it will help combat the
isolation felt by many homosexual people living in rural parts of
Derbyshire.
The group, named Pink Peaks, is designed for people aged 23-35 and
the aim is for members to meet up for trips to the pub, dinner parties
and cinema outings.
While organisers are keen to point out the group isn't a dating service,
it will provide an alternative to the long trek to gay venues in Manchester,
Derby or Sheffield to meet people of the same sexual orientation.
One of the organisers said: "People living in the High Peak area
feel secluded from the gay community which benefits from convenient
venues on its doorstep.
"For a long time, there has been a need to find a way of bring
the sizeable High Peak gay community together and we hope the group
will provide a solution to that."
There's a website for anyone interested in joining (click the link
up on the right) and enquiries about the group should be directed
to PinkPeaks@aol.com
or through
High Peak CVS on 01663 735350.
