Earlier this year Coventry artists Talking Birds travelled to Volgograd in Russia to meet artists working in the city, which has been twinned with Coventry since 1944.
As a result, from 26 October until 14 November, Talking Birds presents the Twin Tones season, a series of events bringing together work of artists from Coventry, Volgograd and beyond.
|"Slava is a musical magician . . . and we are really pleased to bring this rare opportunity for Coventry audiences to hear him play."|
|Derek Nisbet, Talking Birds|
The season includes an exhibition at The Herbert as part of Coventry Peace Month in which the work of Volgograd artists will be “twinned” with work by Coventry artists.
It also features performances in Coventry and London by composer and musical inventor Slava Mishin. Slava makes his UK debut with his orchestra of unique, self-designed instruments.
Derek Nisbet of Talking Birds says:
“During our recent visit to Volgograd we found many affinities and connection between the cities. In the Other Coventry Other Volgograd exhibition we have twinned the work artists of both cities in order to illustrate a the common interests that we found.
"For example we have paired Volgograd photographer Leonid Toprover's pictures of Volgograd with of Alan van Wijgerden's pictures of Coventry. They both show a remarkable eye for the colour and detail that exists in a city but is easy to overlook."
