Yes. As of 16 November 2020, the BBC Sport and BBC News TV apps (UK and international) are no longer available on connected TV. You can still keep up with all the latest news headlines and stories by heading to BBC News section on BBC iPlayer or the BBC News website and app for international news.
You can also watch live Sport on BBC iPlayer and catch up with all the best sport programmes.
And you can still get daily News and Sport updates using the broadcast text service via the TEXT button on your remote, if your device supports it. If you have a TV that’s unable to connect to the internet, you should be able to access this service via the red button on your remote control.
This change doesn't affect the BBC News and BBC Sport website and mobile apps, which continue to operate on the web, phone and tablet.
Why is this happening?
This isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly. We want to give people even better services in the future and this means balancing the resources we need to maintain our TV apps with the additional resource needed to create new and better ways for viewers to experience BBC content across all our platforms (TV, radio and online). To find out more why the BBC has made this decision, head to our blog at bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc.
What are the alternatives to the BBC News and BBC Sport TV apps – and where can I find them?
In addition to visiting the News and Sport sections in BBC iPlayer on your connected TV, you can also get information on your laptop, tablet or mobile.
These links on the BBC website should help you get started:
BBC News website - for up-to-the-minute news headlines from the UK and across the world
BBC Sport website – for all the latest sport stories including football, cricket and horse-racing
You can also download the BBC News and BBC Sport apps onto a tablet or smartphone for free. The BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds apps are also available for free on tablet and mobile.
And daily News and Sport updates are still available from the broadcast text service via the TEXT button on your remote, if your device supports it. If you have a TV that’s unable to connect to the internet, you should be able to access this service via the red button on your remote control.
