BBC Three short-form delivery

The below is a general guide to the content a production may be asked to deliver for BBC Three short-form. Suppliers should refer to their specific short-form production agreement for exact delivery requirements, methods and deadlines.

Please note BBC Three longform linear content (ie that may be broadcast on BBC One and Two) tends to be delivered via the standard BBC delivery processes outlined on the delivery timeline and the following information relates to short-form content only.

Where not specified please liaise with the BBC Three delivery contact for specific delivery dates and methods if these have not been included in the production agreement. Contacts can be found on the contacts page.

 

YouTube and/or BBC platform version

Format
  • ProRes422 HQ, 16:9 plus textless elements.
  • Final picture without burnt in subtitles.

  • No credits to be included in YouTube or BBC platform version.
  • For YouTube versions: At the BBCs discretion up to six roles will be added to the description field on the relevant YouTube page. These will be agreed with the BBC Editorial Representative/BBC Three YouTube Executive during the course of production.
Additional bolt on footage (for YouTube version only)

In addition to the final AV content, productions must deliver an additional 10-20 seconds of video that the BBC may use as a ‘bolt on’. This might be used to add bloopers, extended scenes or calls to action (CTAs) or be overlaid with a subscribe/next video button or a trail for the next video.

Delivery: either included at the end of the final AV file or delivered  as a separate file.

Onscreen graphics (GFX) - if applicable

Details of any onscreen graphics (GFX) included in the final programme

  • Final graphics with Alpha channel enabled, QT ProRes 4444.
  • After Effects compatible project.

Fonts (if applicable)

Please provide details of any onscreen text or title fonts included in the final programme. These should be shared with the BBC Three delivery contact along with confirmation that any rights in the fonts have been cleared for use by the BBC across all media, in perpetuity.

 

Transcripts of rushes/scripts - if available

  • (Subject to data protection or confidentiality requirements.) 
  • Deliver two weeks after final file delivery to the BBC three delivery contact.

 

'Best bits' - if available

Key moments/'best bits' from the final delivered AV content that can be used to cut promos/trails and to use for award or festival show reels. (Sometimes referred to as promo selects.)

Recommended durations
  • 30 seconds minimum for delivered finished content under a total duration of five minutes.
  • Three minutes minimum for delivered finished content that is over a total duration of five minutes.
Format
  • Quicktime Apple ProRes 422 HQ.
  • 1920x1080, PAL, Square pixel.

Additional paperwork requirements
  • Productions are required to deliver a separate non-linear form and music cue form to accompany this content.
  • Both forms should be sent to the BBC Three delivery contact via the Silvermouse online reporting system. Please liaise with the BBC Three delivery contact for further details.

 

Deleted and additional scenes - if available

Content that doesn’t appear in the final delivered programme such as deleted whole scenes or extended scenes which productions think will make perfect additional/bonus content (eg bloopers, behind the scenes clips, etc). 

Please note: this is an optional deliverable. It will be for productions to self-identify any content they think will be appropriate. Please liaise with the BBC Three delivery contact to determine if this is footage the BBC Three team would like.

If BBC Three decides to take receipt of this footage then the following will apply:
