Make a recycled t-shirt bag

You will need

  • An old t-shirt (ask permission first)
  • Scissors
  • Paper clip
  • Decorations – fabric paint, pens etc.

Step one

Cut the neck out of your t-shirt, to create the handles.

Cut off both sleeves - your bag is already looking in good shape!

Step two

Take one sleeve and cut out a straight line about 2cm wide, to create a loop.

Turn the loop of fabric into a long strip by cutting through the stitch.

Take both ends of the fabric strip and stretch.

Step three

Turn your t-shirt inside out. Next make a small cut through the hem at the bottom of the t-shirt.

Poke a paper clip through one end of the fabric strip - this will make the next bit easier!

Using the paperclip, thread the strip of fabric all the way through the hem of the t-shirt.

Top Tip – Don’t push the paper clip through. Hold it in place and push the fabric over it.

Pull at both ends of the strip of fabric to tighten. Tie off with a double knot.

Turn the bag back the right way around.

Step four

Decorate your bag - Go wild!

Or if the t-shirt was super cool to start with, keep it as it was and show off your awesome style.
